| Gleeson Powers, a UL Qualified Firestop
Contractor and a Factory Mutual 4991 Approved Firestop Contractor, is one of
the leading single-source contractors specializing in the installation of firestop
systems and smokeseal products. We provide professional expertise on new or
retrofit projects. We specialize in areas such as Medical Facilities (Hospitals
and Nursing Homes) as well as Commercial, Industrial and High Rise Residential Buildings. |
| Site Conditions |
| We use the most up-to-date
UL, FM, WH, OPL and other list firestop systems. We verify the actual
site condition. We match the correct firestop system to the actual
site conditions, including blank openings, cable trays, bus ducts,
insulated and no insulated metallic pipes (Steel, Copper, Iron, EMT,
Stainless Steel) and non-metallic pipes (PVC, ccPVC, PVDF, CPVC, FRPP,
PP, PB, ABS, ccABS, X-Linked PE), glass pipes, telephone conduit,
security cables and combinations of any and all of the above. |
| We insist
the correct installation of the appropriate firestop system is as
important as the materials themselves. |
 |
| Documentation |
| As one of the region's largest
specialty contractors, we provide complete firestop documentation
(detailed drawings) on each application type for approval by the owner,
architect or insurance company. We also offer tamper-proof DO NOT
DISTURB labels for areas such as large openings, or cable tray penetrations
where future activity is probable. We offer complete customer satisfaction
and professionalism because Life Safety is our business. |
 |
| Full Line of
Firestop Products |
| Gleeson Powers carries a comprehensive
range of firestop products suitable for most firestop systems and
applications. We utilize products manufactured by the leaders in the
firestop industry: 3M,
Grace-Flamesafe,
STI-Specseal,
Rectorseal
- Bio Fireshield, Nelson,
Tremco
and Hilti.
While we are trained and certified by each firestop manufacturer we
maintain our independence of each. This enables us to use the
most appropriate tested firestop system available for a particular
application. |

|
 |
| Firestopping
Made Easy |
| There is an ever-changing list
of approved firestop systems and products available. Avoid misunderstanding
and confusion. Lest us examine your project's specs to determine your
firestopping needs. With our expert knowledge, we can isolate the
most cost effective solutions. We will provide detailed drawings on
each application type for approval by the owner, architect or insurance
company. |
 |
| Project Management |
| Gleeson Powers, offer single-source
responsibility and accountability for all firestopping and smokesealing
requirements. We can interface with Fire Marshals and Building Inspectors,
if required. We install UL and/or equivalent firestop systems maintaining
the integrity of fire rated assemblies in buildings and to protect
lives. GPI is an active member
of the following: the IFC, a charter member of the FCIA, and a contractor
approved to the FM 4991 Standard. |
 |
| Code Interpretation |
| Code interpretation can be
complex, with over 3.500 different UL firestop systems alone. Choosing
the correct firestop system depends on the type of item penetrating
a fire rated wall or floor assembly. Remember, there is no firestop
material that can be used in every application or situation for any
penetration type. |
 |
| Who's Responsible |
| Life Safety is ultimately the
responsibility of the owner. If there is a general contractor involved
in the new or retrofit work or upgrading of facilities it's his responsibility. |
| GLEESON POWERS
is a Specialty Contractor WHO UNDERSTANDS FIRESTOPPING and is FM 4991
APPROVED. |
 |
| Testing Procedures |
| The performance of firestop
systems and joint systems is determined by fire testing. Through-penetrations
and membrane penetrations are tested to the following criteria: ASTM
E 119, UL 263, NFPA 251, ASTM E 814, and UL 1479. Joint systems are
tested to: ASTM E 119, ASTM E 1966, ASTM E 1399 (for cycling), ASTM
C 719 (adhesion and cohesion), and UL 2079. NFPA 96 (Grease Ducts). |
